Hello!

I’m Julie, a portrait artist and figurative painter. I work primarily in water based oils out of my home studio located north of Boston in Massachusetts.

I took a very long hiatus from painting after having my two daughters - over twelve years - and finally found my way back to it in September, 2021. It took a global pandemic, years of intention setting in the presence of a sacred circle of women and the persistent support of my husband to get me back in front of my easel. I’m thankful for every moment I get to spend in my studio.

While I have always been drawn to figurative work, portraiture is a new venture for me. As a visual artist, I am always looking for the treasures that lie beyond words. In my current work, those treasures reveal themselves as emotion and truth through quiet, subtle things such as history embedded in the lines of skin, a gentle lift in an eyebrow or depth in the eyes. It is an incredibly intimate experience to be able to look so closely at a person and such an honor to offer my own rendering of who they might be through portraiture.

In addition to my work in front of the easel, I’ve also been fortunate to explore a wide variety of experiences within the art world including non-profit arts administration, teaching private and group drawing and painting classes, art studio management, curriculum design for visual arts, dance and theater classes, retail art gallery management and artist recruitment for exhibition.
